The EA-6B Prowler is an electronic warfare aircraft of US origin.
Design[]
The EA-6B Prowler is a twin-engine, mid-wing aircraft. It features a larger pod for electronic warfare equipment, a longer nose, and a reinforced fuselage for carrier landings. The aircraft has a crew of four: a pilot and three Electronic Countermeasures officers. The cockpit is designed for efficiency and comfort, with the pilot and one ECM officer in the front and two ECM officers in the back, controlling electronic warfare operations.
Firepower[]
The EA-6B Prowler is equipped with a slew of tactical jamming pods, electronic surveillance systems, and other systems used to disable enemy electronic equipment. They also carry radar-seeking AGM-88 HARM missiles for times they need destroy enemy radar antennas and transmitters themselves.
Avionics[]
The EA-6B Prowler has AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System (TJS) transmitters that are installed in powered pods on external stations, operating across a wide frequency range. The Prowler can carry up to five jamming pods, which can be mission-configured. Each pod contains powerful transmitters that direct jamming signals at threats, with a control computer linked to the aircraft's central processing unit.
Mobility[]
The EA-6B Prowler is driven by 2 x Pratt & Whitney J52-P408A turbojet engines developing 46,3 kilonewtons thrust each. Maximum speed was 1,048 km/h with a cruising speed of 772 km/h. Range was out to 3,745 kilometers with external fuel stores.
